William Peers

William Peers, born near Bristol in 1965, now lives and works on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. After studying at Falmouth College of Art, Peers apprenticed himself to a stone-carver, learning the skills of a direct carver and rejecting power tools. His work has developed from figurative beginnings to beautiful abstract wall-hung reliefs. The stone is worked back to a fragile thinness punctuated by lyrical holes or flowing cracks in the surface which suggest elements of the landscape and in some pieces seem to be an exploration of the path of the chisel itself. William Peers works in Green Horton stone and Purbeck marble which each bring their own distinct character to the work. The qualities of the oak framed, stone barn will enhance the natural qualities of the carvings displayed both inside and outside set against the Sussex landscape.
