| Friday 29 May to Friday 12 June, 2009 This exhibition celebrates Emily Ball's recently published book Drawing and Painting People - a Fresh Approach. It brings together the work of eight figurative painters all of whom are illustrated in the book; Emily Ball, John Skinner, Georgia Hayes, Rose Wylie, Roy Oxlade, Gary Goodman, Gail Elson and Katie Sollohub. The title C’mon ’n’ give us kiss is a response to the intimate, playful and unconventional mood of the show. The images range from direct portraits and life drawings to works derived from transcription, memory and self-portraiture. These paintings are highly inventive, disregarding the conventional and comfortable. They challenge and provoke traditional notions of portraiture bringing with them a sense of joy, passion and an uplifting energy. |
